Casa del Cubo Municipal Pilgrim Hostel in Burgos
The municipal pilgrim hostel known as Casa del Cubo is a place designed exclusively for pilgrims walking the Camino de Santiago Frances who hold the corresponding credential. This hostel is municipally owned and strategically located in the centre of the city of Burgos, right on the route of the Camino Frances. It sits in the old town, very close to the majestic Cathedral de Burgos, making it an important landmark for pilgrims. The hostel opened in 2008, and has since been a welcoming place for those seeking rest and comfort on their journey.
Casa del Cubo has a rich history, having been built during the third quarter of the 16th century. Its name reflects its architecture, referring to the cube-shaped turrets that can be seen at the top of its elegant facade. The building stands on a solid stone base, featuring a beautiful doorway flanked by balusters. The doorway is topped with a family coat of arms that adds a distinguished touch to the site. Just above this striking entrance, a brick upper section rises across three floors, giving the building an attractive and harmonious look that combines history and functionality. This design is not only visually appealing but also serves as a reminder of Burgos’s historic past and its significant role on the Camino de Santiago.
