municipal area of barely five square kilometres. It borders <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/caminodesantiagofrances.com\/en\/burgos-province\/redecilla-del-camino\/\" target=\"_blank\" data-type=\"page\" data-id=\"11275\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Redecilla del Campo<\/a><\/strong> and Ibrillos to the north, Redecilla del Camino to the east, Bascu\u00f1ana to the south and Viloria de Rioja to the west.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading has-text-align-center\">Traces of traditional life<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The old bread oven and the forge with its shoeing frame still survive, two places that for generations were a centre of work and conversation for the residents.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading has-text-align-center\">Festivities<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading has-text-align-center\">Virgen del Campo<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">On 16 September the village celebrates the Virgen del Campo, its patroness, with Mass, a procession and festive events; thanks are also given that day for the harvest.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading has-text-align-center\">Saint Agatha<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">On 5 February, the feast of <strong>Saint Agatha<\/strong>, after the morning Mass it is customary to have the \u00abatranc\u00f3n\u00bb: a glass of sweet wine shared among neighbours.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading has-text-align-center\">Castildelgado on the Camino<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>Castildelgado<\/strong> lies right on the Camino Frances, between <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/caminodesantiagofrances.com\/en\/burgos-province\/redecilla-del-camino\/\" data-type=\"page\" data-id=\"11275\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Redecilla del Camino<\/a><\/strong> and <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/caminodesantiagofrances.com\/en\/burgos-province\/viloria-de-rioja\/\" data-type=\"page\" data-id=\"11295\">Viloria de Rioja<\/a><\/strong>, some 554 kilometres from <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/caminodesantiagofrances.com\/en\/a-coruna-province\/santiago-de-compostela\/\" data-type=\"page\" data-id=\"12306\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Santiago de Compostela<\/a><\/strong>, where the tomb of <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/caminodesantiagofrances.com\/en\/saints\/saint-james-the-greater\/\" data-type=\"page\" data-id=\"5930\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Saint James the Greater<\/a><\/strong> awaits in the <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/caminodesantiagofrances.com\/en\/lo\/cathedral-of-santiago-de-compostela\/\" target=\"_blank\" data-type=\"gd_place\" data-id=\"12591\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Cathedral of Santiago<\/a><\/strong>. This stretch runs close to the road, so the village comes as a welcome break.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading has-text-align-center\">Accommodation and services<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Despite its size, the village has accommodation for pilgrims: the Bideluze hostel, with about sixteen beds, opens in season, roughly from March to October.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading has-text-align-center\">Population and local government<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">With about 35 residents, Castildelgado is run as an open council: decisions are taken by the assembly of residents, a direct form of government that survives in many small villages of Castile.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading has-text-align-center\">Walks in the surroundings<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The tracks of the district let you link villages and landscapes.
