Fr\u00f3mista.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading has-text-align-center\">History<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The name comes from the Latin <em>populatio<\/em>, \u00abinhabited place\u00bb, and the town appears in documents from the time of the resettlement, although finds at Loncejares point to an earlier Roman villa or Vaccaean settlement. In 1140 Alfonso VII gave it to the Order of Saint John of Jerusalem, which was its lord for almost seven centuries.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Heritage<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Church of Saint Mary Magdalene<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">It is the village&#8217;s great church: Baroque, with three naves on cylindrical pillars, rebuilt in the mid-18th century (the work ran from 1749 to 1757). It is presided over by an 18th-century penitent Magdalene and keeps a 16th-century processional cross and pieces of silverwork.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Hermitage of Nuestra Se\u00f1ora del Socorro<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">A small 13th-century Romanesque hermitage, of ashlar with a square chancel, which was a chapel of the vanished church of San Pedro. It is all that still stands from the Hospitaller era, and it is beside the Camino, at the entrance to the village.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Hermitage of San Miguel<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">On the outskirts, by the Ucieza river, stands this simple hermitage with a single nave and flat chancel, also from the 13th century. Tradition places a leper hospital beside it; today its setting of poplars is a good place to rest.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">The bridge over the Ucieza<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The Ucieza river crosses the municipality from north to south and is crossed by a six-arched stone bridge, rebuilt in the 17th century, which leads to the Villovieco variant of the Camino.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading has-text-align-center\">Poblaci\u00f3n de Campos on the Camino<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">On the <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/caminodesantiagofrances.com\/en\/\" target=\"_blank\" data-type=\"page\" data-id=\"86\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Camino Frances<\/a><\/strong>, Poblaci\u00f3n is a short but pleasant stop. <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/caminodesantiagofrances.com\/en\/pilgrims\/\" target=\"_blank\" data-type=\"page\" data-id=\"5880\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Pilgrims<\/a><\/strong> who want to get away from the bustle of Fr\u00f3mista have a municipal hostel here in the old schoolhouse, with some twenty beds.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading has-text-align-center\">Festivities<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The main festival is that of <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/caminodesantiagofrances.com\/en\/saints\/saint-mary-magdalene\/\" target=\"_blank\" data-type=\"page\" data-id=\"9004\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Saint Mary Magdalene<\/a><\/strong>, on 22 July.
