class=\"wp-block-heading has-text-align-center\">The village<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>Ledigos<\/strong> lies at 889 metres above sea level and has a municipal area of about 28 km\u00b2. The <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/caminodesantiagofrances.com\/en\/\" data-type=\"page\" data-id=\"86\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Camino Frances<\/a><\/strong> crosses it from side to side and has shaped its life for centuries: <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/caminodesantiagofrances.com\/en\/pilgrims\/\" target=\"_blank\" data-type=\"page\" data-id=\"5880\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">pilgrims<\/a><\/strong> on their way to the <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/caminodesantiagofrances.com\/en\/lo\/cathedral-of-santiago-de-compostela\/\" target=\"_blank\" data-type=\"gd_place\" data-id=\"12591\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Cathedral of Santiago<\/a><\/strong> in <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/caminodesantiagofrances.com\/en\/a-coruna-province\/santiago-de-compostela\/\" target=\"_blank\" data-type=\"page\" data-id=\"12306\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Santiago de Compostela<\/a><\/strong> stopped here.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading has-text-align-center\">Church of Saint James the Apostle<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/caminodesantiagofrances.com\/en\/lo\/church-of-saint-james-the-greater-ledigos\/\" target=\"_blank\" data-type=\"gd_place\" data-id=\"15044\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Church of Santiago Ap\u00f3stol<\/a><\/strong> is the village&#8217;s great Camino symbol. It stands on a rise overlooking the plain and Terradillos de los Templarios.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h4 class=\"wp-block-heading has-text-align-center\">What it is like<\/h4>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><strong>Origin<\/strong>: the present church dates from the 17th century, but in the Middle Ages the place already belonged to the church of Santiago de Compostela.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Structure<\/strong>: a single nave with a groin vault, a dome over the crossing and two side chapels.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Altarpieces<\/strong>: from the 17th and 18th centuries, with a fine crucified Christ.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Saint James, three times<\/strong>: it holds images of the saint as a pilgrim, as an apostle and as Matamoros, the Moor-slayer, which is unusual.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading has-text-align-center\">The hospital of San L\u00e1zaro<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Beside the Camino stood a <strong>hospital of <a href=\"https:\/\/caminodesantiagofrances.com\/en\/saints\/saint-lazarus\/\" target=\"_blank\" data-type=\"page\" data-id=\"15753\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Saint Lazarus<\/a><\/strong>, first a leper house and then a pilgrim refuge. It was pulled down in 1752 and its stones were used for the hermitage of Vallejera. A marker beside the road to Poblaci\u00f3n de Arroyo shows where it stood.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading has-text-align-center\">Traditions<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<h4 class=\"wp-block-heading has-text-align-center\">Hermitage of Nuestra Se\u00f1ora de Vallejera<\/h4>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">A kilometre and a half from the village, the hermitage of Vallejera was built with materials from the old hospital, and it is still a place of devotion for the residents.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading has-text-align-center\">Festivities<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-text-align-left wp-block-paragraph\">The main festival is that of <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/caminodesantiagofrances.com\/en\/saints\/saint-james-the-greater\/\" target=\"_blank\" data-type=\"page\" data-id=\"5930\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Saint James the Greater<\/a><\/strong>, on 25 July.
