has-text-align-center\">Arcahueja<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>Arcahueja<\/strong> is a small Spanish village located in the <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/caminodesantiagofrances.com\/en\/leon-province\/\" data-type=\"page\" data-id=\"6006\">Province of Le\u00f3n<\/a><\/strong>, within the municipality of Valdefresno and the Sobarriba district, in the autonomous community of Castilla y Le\u00f3n. With a population of approximately 221 inhabitants according to 2022 data, it lies about 6 kilometres east of the city of <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/caminodesantiagofrances.com\/en\/leon-province\/leon\/\" target=\"_blank\" data-type=\"page\" data-id=\"11614\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Le\u00f3n<\/a><\/strong>, on the Arroyo de la Pega stream, a tributary of the Porma River.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading has-text-align-center\">Arcahueja on the Camino de Santiago<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>Arcahueja<\/strong> is a stop on the <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/caminodesantiagofrances.com\/en\/\" target=\"_blank\" data-type=\"page\" data-id=\"86\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Camino Frances<\/a><\/strong>. The route crosses the upper part of the village, offering <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/caminodesantiagofrances.com\/en\/peregrinos\/\" target=\"_blank\" data-type=\"page\" data-id=\"5880\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">pilgrims<\/a><\/strong> a panoramic view of the rural Le\u00f3n countryside. From Arcahueja, pilgrims continue on to <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/caminodesantiagofrances.com\/en\/leon-province\/valdelafuente\/\" target=\"_blank\" data-type=\"page\" data-id=\"11609\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Valdelafuente<\/a><\/strong> and then to the city of <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/caminodesantiagofrances.com\/en\/leon-province\/leon\/\" target=\"_blank\" data-type=\"page\" data-id=\"11614\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Le\u00f3n<\/a><\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading has-text-align-center\">History of Arcahueja<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>Arcahueja<\/strong> was once part of the historic <strong>Hermandad de La Sobarriba<\/strong> (Brotherhood of La Sobarriba), an organisation that historically protected small rural settlements from urban councils. The village is home to the <strong>Cofrad\u00eda de Nuestra Se\u00f1ora de la Asunci\u00f3n<\/strong> (Brotherhood of Nuestra Se\u00f1ora de la Asunci\u00f3n), founded in 1840. In 2010, thanks to the village\u2019s Cultural Association, its traditional pend\u00f3n (ceremonial banner) was restored, consisting of a 7.2-metre-high pole and a cloth in red, green and white.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading has-text-align-center\">Architecture and Surroundings of Arcahueja<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The traditional houses of <strong>Arcahueja<\/strong> are built mainly of adobe or brick, usually with two two-storey sections: the first used as living quarters and the second for storing farming tools and livestock. This architecture reflects the influence of urban culture due to the village\u2019s proximity to the Le\u00f3n capital.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading has-text-align-center\">Social Initiatives<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The village has taken part in reception programmes for immigrants and refugees.
