the Camino<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The municipality, with just over 7,000 inhabitants and 11 km from Le\u00f3n, includes La Virgen del Camino and the village of Valverde, which the main variant of the Camino crosses beside the road, with a hostel and services for pilgrims. Summers are dry and winters cold.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading has-text-align-center\">History<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The municipality was formed in the 19th century with the reorganisation of the town councils between the \u00d3rbigo and the Bernesga. Its name honours the <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/caminodesantiagofrances.com\/en\/saints\/virgen-del-camino\/\" data-type=\"page\" data-id=\"8954\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Virgen del Camino<\/a><\/strong>, the sanctuary that is its main landmark.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading has-text-align-center\">Religious heritage<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The sanctuary of the Virgen del Camino, patroness of the Le\u00f3n Region, is the great centre of devotion of the municipality and of the whole province.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading has-text-align-center\">Festivities<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The San Froil\u00e1n pilgrimage, in October, fills the sanctuary with people from Le\u00f3n.
