the Valcarce<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Pereje, a hamlet of Trabadelo, is a village of stone and slate houses in the valley of the Valcarce river, about five kilometres after Villafranca. The Camino crosses it along its main street, away from the motorway.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">It had a medieval pilgrim hospital that led to a long lawsuit: Queen Do\u00f1a Urraca gave it in 1118 to the monastery of <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/caminodesantiagofrances.com\/en\/lugo-province\/o-cebreiro\/\" target=\"_blank\" data-type=\"page\" data-id=\"11939\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">O Cebreiro<\/a><\/strong>, and the Cluniac monks of Villafranca claimed it for years, because it lay in their area of influence.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading hamlet, beside the Camino.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading has-text-align-center\">Hostel<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Pereje has a municipal hostel, in a very quiet setting, for those who prefer not to sleep in Villafranca.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">There is no shop or ATM; bring what you need from Villafranca.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator has-alpha-channel-opacity\"\/>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading has-text-align-center\">The Valcarce river<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The Valcarce river accompanies the pilgrim along this whole stretch, and in Pereje it flows right beside the village.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Its banks have chestnuts, poplars and alders that give shade in summer.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading has-text-align-center\">Festivities<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The feast of Santa Mar\u00eda Magdalena, in July, brings together the residents and those with roots in the village.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading has-text-align-center\">Before the mountains<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Pereje is at the start of the valley that leads, kilometre by kilometre, to the great climb to <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/caminodesantiagofrances.com\/en\/lugo-province\/o-cebreiro\/\" target=\"_blank\" data-type=\"page\"
