The Order was founded in 1216 in Toulouse, France, in response to the heresies threatening Catholic orthodoxy. Saint Dominic de Guzman, concerned about the spread of erroneous doctrines, established a community devoted to preaching and the deep study of Scripture. Papal approval by Honorius III consolidated its evangelising mission.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
