This part of the journey covers 21 kilometres, making for a rather pleasant walk full of beautiful scenery. Jhonatan walked the whole Camino from 26 April to 26 May 2022, an experience he will no doubt remember for a long time.

In this video, Jhonatan shows what his journey was like on this stage number 13 towards Hornillos del Camino. This was a special moment for him, as it meant saying goodbye to the impressive Cathedral of Santa María de Burgos, a truly beautiful place well worth visiting. After leaving that architectural gem behind, he carried on walking through the fields of the Castilla y León region, known for its vast landscapes and rich history connected with the Camino de Santiago.

Along the way, Jhonatan passed through several villages in the Burgos Province, which have been dedicated to welcoming pilgrims since medieval times. Each of these places has its own charm and stories that reflect the tradition and hospitality that characterise the people of the area. Jhonatan hopes you enjoy the video and that it inspires you to learn more about this great adventure that is the Camino de Santiago, especially on this beautiful stage.

Stage 13: Burgos to Hornillos del Camino with Jhonatan Barrios

Jhonatan Barrios left the hostel in Burgos, a lovely spot tucked away at the back, and set off towards Hornillos del Camino, or perhaps a little further, depending on how he felt during the day. That morning dawned clear, and as he said goodbye to Burgos and its imposing cathedral, he couldn’t help but marvel at the view. Walking through the old town, the buildings surrounding the cathedral created a striking contrast.

Jhonatan walked around the cathedral and headed for the way out of Burgos, passing through the majestic Puerta de Burgos. He was the last pilgrim to leave the hostel, taking his time since this time he was walking alone, at his own pace. Fran, his companion, had gone ahead a few stages to meet up with some friends. He took one last look at the cathedral and its emblematic archway before taking the Paseo de La Isla, alongside the Arlanzón river, enjoying the trees and the morning bustle of the city.

Along the way to Hornillos del Camino, Jhonatan began to feel pain in his ankle, forcing him to slow down. He reached Tardajos, the first village after 10 kilometres, where he decided to stop for breakfast and a rest. Tardajos, known in the Códice Calixtino as a stopping point for pilgrims, is a village of medieval origin with a rich historical heritage, although no trace remains today of its old pilgrim hospitals.

Continuing his journey, Jhonatan reached Rabé de las Calzadas, a place whose name has an uncertain origin, with theories linking it to Judaism or to Roman times. The scenery grew ever more beautiful as he went on, under a clear sky with the sun behind him. Despite the growing pain in his right foot, Jhonatan psyched himself up to reach Hornillos del Camino.

He finally reached the small village of Hornillos del Camino, running along its single street known as La Real. There, he explored the parish church of San Román and the Fuente del Gallo, symbols of the village with a history dating back to the Spanish War of Independence. The name Hornillos del Camino is representative of the Camino de Santiago Frances, as it comes from the small ovens (“hornillos”) that existed in the area since medieval times.

Jhonatan stayed at a well-kept, pleasant hostel. After walking around the village and meeting up with some fellow pilgrim friends he had known since Saint-Jean-Pied-de-Port, he shared dinner with them, enjoying a tasty paella. Before going to sleep, he gave his foot a massage with a special ointment to ease the pain, hoping to be better prepared for stage number 14 the next day (Video Stage 14: Hornillos del Camino to Castrojeriz with Jhonatan Barrios).

¡Buen Camino, pilgrims!

Camino de Santiago Francés

Video Stage 13: Burgos to Hornillos del Camino | Camino Frances with Jhonatan Barrios Video Stage 13: Burgos to Hornillos del Camino | Camino de Santiago Frances with Jhonatan Barrios Jhonatan Barrios wants to share everything he experienced on Stage 13 of the Camino de Santiago Frances, which runs from the city of Burgos to […]

[434
689
post-12953","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","has-post-thumbnail","hentry","category-videos","tag-jhonatanbarrios
["GET
