A moving experience that brought my body and spirit back to life after coming close to death.

I didn’t expect the Camino to call me again in 2025, and that’s how I ended up on the Piedmont Pyrenean Way in France.

I set off from Pamiers on 10 September for “a few days”. Then, guided by the people I met along the way, I found myself crossing the Somport pass and taking the Camino Aragónés. Breathtaking landscapes, plenty of climbing, and few pilgrims. What an inner journey!

Then, on reaching Puente la Reina on the Camino Frances, I had planned to head back up into France, but my intuition decided otherwise. So I walked on towards Compostela without really knowing why. I dreaded the crowds and the touristy side of this route, but my experience with the donativo hostels completely changed the image I had of it. I discovered, with joy, a new energy, new landscapes, and had many beautiful encounters. A true love affair with the Meseta, because it is in the silence that you can hear your own quiet inner voice.

Then, on reaching Ponferrada, the longing for nature and silence returned. So I switched to the Camino de Invierno (Winter Way) and bought a tent to try wild camping. I had been dreaming of it for a long time, and this was the chance. And here I am, arriving in Santiago de Compostela 66 days later, when it had not even been planned. The magic of intuition!

Happy to see Santiago again, and all the inner journey I’ve travelled since. Walking is the best therapist there is.

Clémence Forien

Instagram: clemence.forien
