Hospital da Condesa (Hospital de la Condesa) is a village in the municipality of Pedrafita do Cebreiro, in Lugo Province, on the Camino Frances.
Its name is a statement of origin: according to tradition, in the 9th century Doña Egilo, wife of Count Gatón, one of the resettlers of El Bierzo, founded a pilgrim hospital here to help those arriving exhausted after crossing the mountains of O Cebreiro. It is a small village at over 1,200 metres, of stone and slate houses very typical of the Lugo mountains. The Camino passes right in front of the church of San Juan, austere, with stone walls and a tower reached by an outside staircase. The welcome continues in the Xunta’s public hostel, opened in 1993, which for many is a quiet alternative to O Cebreiro. From here the Camino continues along mountain tracks towards Padornelo and the Alto do Poio.
