Furelos (San Xoán de Furelos) is a hamlet and parish in the municipality of Melide, in A Coruna Province, on the Camino Frances.
You enter across one of the most beautiful medieval bridges of the Galician section: four unequal granite arches over the river Furelos, with the humpbacked profile typical of these structures, almost fifty metres long, a crossing pilgrims have used since the Middle Ages. On the other side, the hamlet keeps its old-world air, and the church of San Xoán, late Romanesque in origin, holds a piece that surprises everyone: a crucified Christ with his right arm unnailed from the cross, leaning towards the viewer, by the sculptor Manuel Cajide, a native of Furelos. It is a good place for an unhurried stop, because straight afterwards the Camino climbs into the streets of Melide, just over a kilometre away, famous for its octopus.
