A Salceda is a hamlet in the parish of Ferreiros, in the municipality of O Pino, in A Coruna Province, on the Camino Frances.
It lies beside the N-547 main road and, as its name suggests, in a place of willows. It has bars and a hostel, so many pilgrims use it as a rest stop on the stage from Arzúa to O Pedrouzo. But what usually stays in the memory is a little further on, at the edge of the Camino: a simple monument with a pair of bronze boots and a plaque remembering Guillermo Watt, a pilgrim who died here on 25 August 1993, aged 69, when he had only one day left to reach Santiago. Many walkers stop in silence and leave a stone or a flower. It is one of those places that remind you that the Camino is also a life experience, and that the goal is now very close.
From A Salceda to Santa Irene it is about 3.5 km.
To A Rúa it is about 6 km.
And to the Cathedral of Santiago de Compostela, in Santiago de Compostela, about 27.8 km remain.
