What is there in A Rúa

A Rúa is a small hamlet in the municipality of O Pino, in A Coruna Province, on the Camino Frances.

Past Santa Irene, the Camino enters A Rúa, a cluster of stone houses and well-kept gardens that is, in practice, the gateway to O Pedrouzo. The Galician name, “the street”, describes its shape well: a few houses lined up along the route. It has no monuments or documented history of its own to dwell on, but it does have some charming rural guesthouses, much sought after by those who prefer to spend the penultimate night in quiet surroundings rather than in the bustle of O Pedrouzo. From here pilgrims can follow the main path, which skirts O Pedrouzo through the woods, or detour a few minutes into the village centre to find every service before the last day to Santiago.

Distances from A Rúa

From A Rúa to O Pedrouzo it is about 1.8 km.

To O Amenal it is about 5.3 km.

And to the Cathedral of Santiago de Compostela, in Santiago de Compostela, about 21.8 km remain.

A Rúa is a hamlet of stone houses in the parish of Santa Eulalia de Arca, in the municipality of O Pino, less than a kilometre from O Pedrouzo. One of its houses keeps a stone coat of arms from an old manor house, and nearby there is a fountain where pilgrims cool off.

The surroundings

The Camino passes through A Rúa among eucalyptus and oak woods, on a quiet stretch before reaching O Pedrouzo.

History

There was a pilgrim hospital in the area, a reminder of the long relationship between these hamlets and the Camino.

Services

A Rúa lies beside the N-547, the road between Santiago de Compostela and Lugo, so it is easy to reach from Melide or O Pedrouzo. It has accommodation and, a step away, all the services of O Pedrouzo.

Buses between Santiago and Lugo stop in the area.

In short

A Rúa is a good alternative to O Pedrouzo for the last night before Santiago: quieter, and a few minutes from all the services.
