I started the Camino with a very clear purpose:
to find myself and overcome my fears.
After a year and a half of breaking my whole life apart, closing cycles, leaving behind what no longer did me good, and rebuilding myself from scratch, I needed a turning point.
A before and an after.
And that “after” began with a backpack, a pair of boots… and one crazy idea: bringing a mini DJ deck with me.
Yes, a mini DJ deck and a Bluetooth speaker.
Because my purpose wasn’t just to walk:
it was to bring my music together with my process, with my changes, to create something that moved me from within and, along the way, share it with the pilgrims I crossed paths with.
That crazy idea gave me one more reason to get up every morning, even on the hardest days.
I went alone, but I was never so accompanied.
By myself.
By nature.
By the wonderful people the Camino Frances gives you, who end up becoming family without you ever looking for it.
Playing music every day became a ritual.
At first I felt very self-conscious about it.
It was the pilgrims themselves who encouraged me, and who even offered to talk to bars and venues so I could DJ at the stops.
And that’s where I discovered a strength I had kept hidden for a long time:
confidence in myself.
The kind that stayed buried and struggled to come out.
But as the days went by, through the hardships, the pain, and the emotion of the Camino… it woke up again.
And it reminded me that I can achieve whatever I set my mind to, even with shaking legs.
In the big cities I’d make a small move on social media:
I’d post a video, ask for help, and within hours someone would find me a venue.
A place with a big deck, good speakers… and always plenty of people ready to celebrate life.
Pilgrims, locals, curious onlookers would all join in…
And every night ended surrounded by thanks, hugs, and people telling me that my music had given them exactly what they needed.
I just played the songs; the Camino did the rest.
There were stages when I didn’t have the strength for even one more step, especially in the final kilometres.
Stages when I cried, when I doubted, when I thought I wouldn’t make it.
But my desire to create a beautiful moment for the pilgrims always pushed me a little further.
Music was my fuel.
The Camino, my teacher and my liberation.
And then came a day, one of those that breaks something open inside you, when I found myself crying not from tiredness, but because I understood I had abandoned a part of myself for too long.
And there, in the middle of a trail, I forgave her.
And I got her back.
The Camino is the Camino of life:
with its hardships, its gifts, its shadows and its light.
It breaks you down and puts you back together.
It takes away what’s excess and gives you back what’s essential.
It shows you the truth and puts you face to face with your greatest fears.
After 33 days, I reached the Plaza del Obradoiro.
And it wasn’t only the Yasmina who left home that arrived:
the Yasmina who arrived was full of confidence, calm, and certainty.
The one who no longer looks outside for what she already has within.
The one who walked through her fears.
The one who danced through her wounds.
The one who understood that true companionship begins within.
Even today I find it hard to fully take in everything I lived through.
Because this journey was, without a doubt,
the journey of my life.
I feel I’ve grown in ways that usually take years.
That my purpose as a DJ can go as far as I decide to take it.
And that so many other things in my life can too.
This journey gave me learning, confidence, courage,
and beautiful people who will always be part of my story.
I hope to turn this into a way of life.
I hope to come back next year and keep walking.
