Located at Calle Real, 26, the hostel sits in the heart of Hontanas, a town declared a Site of Cultural Interest. Calle Real is part of the medieval Jacobean route in Burgos Province, making the hostel an ideal resting point for pilgrims.

Facilities and Services for Pilgrims

The Municipal Hostel Saint John the Baptist offers 42 places distributed across three dormitories of different sizes. The facilities include six hot-water showers, six toilets, and individual lockers at each bunk. It also has a washing machine, dryer, heating, and free Wi-Fi. For the safety of belongings, there is an enclosed area for bicycles.

As for food, the hostel offers communal dinners for €12, fostering fellowship among pilgrims. Although there is no kitchen, a microwave and refrigerator are available for common use.

• Opening hours: 12:00 PM to 10:00 PM from Easter Week to October; 3:00 PM to 10:00 PM the rest of the year.
• Annual closure: December 24, 25, and 31.
• Reservations: Reservations are accepted, and required the day before arrival during the low season.
• Required documentation: It is mandatory to present the pilgrim credential and ID card or passport.

Historical Heritage of Hontanas

Hontanas is a town with a rich historical heritage. Notable is the Church of the Immaculate Conception Hontanas, built in the 14th century and later remodeled in Neoclassical style. The former Hospital of Saint John, now a hostel, retains a Gothic arch and medieval grain silos inside.
