Ventosa is a small municipality in the Logroño area, in La Rioja, on the Camino Frances.
Here the Camino gives you the option of going into the village or bypassing it on the direct path, and the detour is worth it: Ventosa, with about two hundred residents, is pure vineyard country, with cellars dug into the Santa Eulalia quarter and a long tradition of muleteers who went off to sell wine and vinegar across half of Spain. It already had a pilgrim hospital in the 12th century. At the top of the village stands the church of San Saturnino, with an early-17th-century altarpiece. Beyond the village the Camino climbs to the Alto de San Antón, with the remains of an old convent, and before Nájera comes Roland’s Hill, where legend places the fight between the paladin Roland and the giant Ferragut.
From Ventosa to Nájera it is about 11.9 km.
To Azofra it is about 17.7 km.
And to the Cathedral of Santiago de Compostela, in Santiago de Compostela, about 598.3 km remain.
