Mercado da Serra

What is there in Mercado da Serra

Mercado da Serra is a small hamlet in the parish of Barbadelo, in the municipality of Sarria, in Lugo Province, on the Camino Frances.

Its name, “the market of the hills”, recalls what it was: a crossroads where several routes from the parishes of Sarria and Paradela met, and where for centuries there has been a tavern and fair trading. That role as a stopping place lives on, because right on the Camino there is a tavern on the same spot, very welcome for breakfast or a coffee a few kilometres out of Sarria. Otherwise it is a cluster of a few houses among meadows and oak woods, with no monuments to mention. From here the Camino continues along quiet tracks and corredoiras towards Peruscallo and A Brea, heading for the 100-kilometre marker.
