According to tradition, the bridge’s reconstruction was carried out by Saint Dominic of the Causeway, with the assistance of Saint John of Ortega, both recognized for their contributions to the Camino de Santiago. The Puente de El Canto originally had eleven uneven arches, built of highly resistant siliceous stone. At its entrance stood a wooden scaffold or small fort, underscoring its strategic and defensive value at the time.
