A Brea (Palas de Rei)

What is there in A Brea (Palas de Rei)

A Brea is a small hamlet in the parish of Lestedo, in the municipality of Palas de Rei, in Lugo Province, on the Camino Frances.

Do not confuse it with its namesake in the municipality of Sarria, the one with the old 100-kilometre marker: this A Brea is at the gates of Palas de Rei and is one of the last hamlets before the town. It is a few houses beside the Camino, with no monuments or documented history of its own. Its interest lies in what it announces: on the way out, the path climbs towards O Rosario, a rise whose name is linked to the prayers pilgrims said on reaching it, because on clear days you can see the Pico Sacro from there, the mountain that rises beside Santiago. It is the first visible sign that the goal is near. After that, all that remains is to go down to Palas de Rei.
