1000 CAMINOS – 12 Musicians from El Bierzo
A Group of Twelve Musicians from El Bierzo Have Composed an Anthem Dedicated to the Camino de Santiago Where It Crosses the Comarca
After two years of pandemic and the arrival of 2021 and 2022 as Xacobeo Holy Years, a group of 12 musicians from El Bierzo decided to create a special gift for “the paths to Compostela.” These music enthusiasts have composed an anthem to the Camino de Santiago called “1,000 caminos.” According to the Mil Caminos project, the song aims to highlight the many different ways of walking the Camino de Santiago, with a thousand experiences to live, stories to tell and paths to travel. The music video will premiere on Friday 20 May at 8:30pm at the Nave de Calderas of the Fábrica de la Luz, the Energy Museum in Ponferrada. This anthem was filmed at more than 20 “iconic locations in our Comarca,” both on the ground and from the air using drones, culminating in the Plaza del Obradoiro in Santiago de Compostela.
El Bierzo plays a crucial role in the various pilgrimage routes, such as the Camino Frances, the Camino Olvidado, the Manzanal variant and the Camino de Invierno. We want to showcase these routes through the beautiful landscapes of our Comarca and an original song that immerses us in the experience of being pilgrims. With our song “1000 CAMINOS,” we aim to pay special tribute to all the travellers from different places who walk this route, especially in this such significant year, which only comes around about 14 times a century.
To create this musical work, we brought together leading musicians from El Bierzo, from a range of different bands and musical styles. They include Miguel Rallo (Nunca Fuimos Ángeles) and Rafaria Montecristo (Cometa Errante) on guitars, Miguel Cabero (Nunca Fuimos Ángeles) as lead vocalist and composer, Sergio López (Collado) on percussion and bagpipes, Mauro Otero (The Morgans) on bass, Miguel Rivas (The Morgans) on vocals, Alejandro Villar (Eloqventia) on medieval flute, Alba Álvarez on violin, Cris Falagán (Broken Hips) and Irina Macías (The Brewster) on vocals, Samuel San Juan (En Bruto) on keyboard, and Jorge Prada (Rapabestas) on whistle and bagpipes.
