Casanova is a small hamlet in the parish of Mato, in the municipality of Palas de Rei, in Lugo Province, on the Camino Frances.
It is one of the last Lugo hamlets on the Camino, surrounded by meadows and oak copses, and its landmark for pilgrims is the public Xunta hostel, opened in 1993, a quiet option for those who want to sleep between Palas de Rei and Melide away from the busier towns. The hamlet has no notable monuments, but its surroundings have history: just over a kilometre away, at Porto de Bois, a battle of the wars for the Crown of Castile was fought in the spring of 1371 between the supporters of Henry II and those of Ferdinand of Portugal. From here the Camino continues through Porto de Bois and Campanilla and, soon after, crosses into A Coruña province at O Coto.
From Casanova to O Leboreiro it is about 3 km.
To Furelos it is about 7 km.
And to the Cathedral of Santiago de Compostela, in Santiago de Compostela, about 62.3 km remain.
