Villatuerta is a town and municipality in the eastern Estella area, in Navarra, on the Camino Frances.
Its name comes from something as prosaic as “crooked town”, and the Camino does indeed enter it in a roundabout way, dropping to the river Iranzu to cross it on a two-arched medieval bridge. On the other side stands the church of the Assumption, built between the 12th and 14th centuries, whose tower can be seen from afar. Today the town, with just over twelve hundred residents, lives more from its industrial estates than from farming, but it keeps its devotion to Saint Veremund, abbot of Irache, whose relics it shares with Arellano: every five years they change village. For pilgrims it is the last stop before Estella, less than four kilometres away, and the point where you can take the Montejurra variant, shorter but more demanding.
