Chapter 5 | Santo Domingo de la Calzada – Burgos with Jorge de la Rosa

  • Stage 10 Santo Domingo de la Calzada to Belorado 22 kilometres
  • Stage 11 Belorado to Agés 26.8 kilometres
  • Stage 12 Agés to Burgos 18.8 kilometres

The Camino Frances has been a journey that marked a turning point in Jorge de la Rosa’s inner world. At that stage of his life, he was emerging from a state of depression and carrying a great weight of pain inside him. This pain was something he had to confront with every step he took as he made his way toward the Santiago Cathedral in Santiago de Compostela.

In this fifth chapter of his story, Jorge shares how he feels about the process he’s going through. At that point in his life, it was no longer difficult for him to open up to the world around him and share his emotions. This was a significant change for him, because in the past, it used to be very hard for him to open up and express what he truly felt. Jorge believes it’s essential to normalise the emotional problems we face, because showing vulnerability isn’t a sign of weakness — in fact, it makes us stronger and more resilient in the face of adversity.

At that time, love was a source of serious inner conflict in Jorge’s life, as his self-esteem was very weakened. However, despite all these complicated feelings, the Camino was already beginning to work on him, opening his heart to the truth he needed to find.

Along the Camino, very special and truly memorable towns await, such as Belorado and Atapuerca. The latter has been declared a UNESCO World Heritage Site thanks to its extraordinary archaeological sites. It is, without a doubt, a magical place that connects us with the history of humankind. There is also the exciting arrival in Burgos, home to the impressive Burgos Cathedral. Jorge is sure you’ll enjoy it just as much as he has enjoyed every one of these moments.
