History of Airexe
The history of Airexe is closely linked to the Camino de Santiago. Its origins go back to medieval times, although there are traces of Roman settlements in the area. The Via XIX of the Antonine Itinerary, which connected Lugo with Braga, passed near this area.
The oldest document referring to this region dates from the year 572, related to the division of the diocese of Lugo into twelve counties, which shows the importance of this region in the history of Galicia.
