Ligonde is a hamlet and parish in the municipality of Monterroso, in Lugo Province, on the Camino Frances.
Today it barely has more than fifty residents, but it was an important Camino station, with a church dedicated to the Apostle, a hospital that may have been run by the Order of Santiago and even a pilgrims’ cemetery, still talked about in the mid-18th century in a plot now turned into a meadow. It is said that Emperor Charles V stayed at the Casa Carneiro in 1520 on his journey through Galicia. Before entering the hamlet, pilgrims meet the Lameiros cross, from 1670, one of the most unusual stone crosses on the Camino: its base is carved with the symbols of the Passion and of death, and the cross shows the Virgin and Child. Of the Romanesque church of Santiago only the doorway remains, built into an 18th-century church.
