Chapter 6 | Burgos – Calzadilla de la Cueza with Jorge de la Rosa

  • Stage 13 | Burgos – Hontanas (33.5 km)
  • Stage 14 | Hontanas – Frómista (35 km)
  • Stage 15 | Frómista – Calzadilla de la Cueza (35 km)

The experience of the Camino Frances has had a deep and transformative impact on Jorge de la Rosa’s inner life. At that time, he was emerging from a state of depression and carrying a great weight of emotional pain that he had to face. Every step he took on his journey toward the Santiago Cathedral in Santiago de Compostela became an opportunity to face and process those feelings.

In this sixth chapter of his journey, the Camino left him in a state of reflective solitude. It gave him exactly what he needed at that point, as he was beginning to delve into his inner self more seriously. Jorge had reached a moment in his life when he could no longer keep ignoring or putting up with certain aspects of his emotions, which had been like anchors, making it harder for him to enjoy life. So, he could say he had begun a genuine journey inward, one that would allow him to discover who he truly was and what he wanted for his future life.

Along this stretch of the Camino, Jorge had the chance to visit beautiful and meaningful places. One of them was Castrojeriz, a place with a very complicated and bloody past. He also visited Hontanas, a place that invites contemplation. Not forgetting Carrión de los Condes, which has its own history, as well as the pilgrims’ hospital of Saint Nicholas of Bari, located near Ítero de la Vega. These three long stages were not only a physical challenge that tested his endurance, but also led him to confront his emotional exhaustion, which had become very heavy to carry. As he kept walking, he felt that every place he visited and every step he took were contributing to a change within him, allowing him to move toward a state of greater understanding and inner peace.

Buen Camino, pilgrims!
